With a properly modded cook you can get almost double the yield.įood for lategame animal production -> hay hay hay hayĮarly game : chickens, all other "birds" dont lay eggs that fast. One important thing to remember is the meat/leather yield when butchering can be increased with high cooking skill and bionics such as eyes and arms. If you can handle the labor I think your better off with fast reproducing animals like chickens or rabbits otherwise go with something slower like pigs or turkeys. Generally the larger the animal the more meat/leather you get but their pregnancies take longer and they mature slower. As a bonus you are also informed of births so you can immediately slaughter them whereas adults you'll need to keep an eye on their growth. After playing a lot I've come to the conclusion its simply easier and less taxing to go with slaughtering babies. Letting them grow into adults though is very taxing on your colonies food supply. It also depends how you want to slaughter them, you can slaughter them as soon as they're born, after they become juveniles for a bit extra meat or when they grow into adults. Which animals you go with really depends on your climate, how labor intensive you want to get and what you can get your hands on. Cows are supposed to be fairly decent for milk but I've never tried them. Muffalo give both milk and wool but do both in low amounts and fairly slowly so I don't find them terribly great unless you have a cold climate. They can be sheared constantly for large amounts of wool making them fantastic for money making. Both are fairly quick to mature.Īlpacas are an absolute gold mine for simply keeping alive. Rabbits are also great because they reproduce fast and have large litters. Chickens are one of the fastest, you can either eat the eggs or let them hatch. Do not slaughter anything in the pig pen though these disgusting little blighters will eat each other the second one of them dies. They reproduce fairly fast and birth several piglets at a time and can be fed on corpses. Personally I think once you have a good colony its best to just grow a plot of all 4 so you have a nice mix of food.Īs for animals pigs/boars are a very good staple. Strawberries are fairly fast growing and can be eaten raw without complaints. In a Hydroponics basin it grows at 230% speed making it great for mountain bases. Rice is fast growing but is affected by fertility so it grows faster in better soil. Potatoes are fast growing and can grow in even gravel without any real effect. For crops corn is one of the best, its high yield but takes a long time to grow.
